SIS20213 Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation
The Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation is a nationally recognised qualification which provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities.
Work would be undertaken in field locations such as camps or in indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment.
Any member of Scouts Australia who has sufficent evidence can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The enrolment Process is outlined on the SAIT Qualifications page.
Experiences and learning received by Venturers, Rovers and Leaders across Australia, aligns closely to the requirements of the Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation. A typical pathway that enables collection of valid evidence is a Venturer/Rover/Leader;
- Complete Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)
- Completes the Scout Bushwalking e-Learning
- Completes a Scout Bushwalking Practical or Bushwalking Level 1, Recognition of Proficiency
- Completes at least one additional adventurous activity course (Canoeing, Abseiling, etc.)
- Actively participates in Adventurous Activities
- Provides an up to date activites log
- Complete the core units workbook
After completing your enrolment with the Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT), a SAIT assessor will be assigned to you and they will assess your evidence. They may ask for further evidence or have a conversation with you to gather further information about your experiences.
Upon successfully completing your Recognition of Prior Learning assessment, you will receive a Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation (SIS20213).

The Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation requires 15 units of competency, yet it can vary in what outcomes each person achieves.
